Hi Mario, The notches in the rising wood are there to provide a larger gluing surface and to add support for the frame as it is installed. The notches also aide in alignment of the frames to the keel while gluing the frames. Mike I got what your saying Mike. Greg had mentioned this on his cross section that you can either notch it out or not, because the frames will be hiding it anyway when installed. Greg had mentioned trying out the more detailed rising wood because that is how ship wrights did it. the only adjustment that had to be made was that the notch on the floor portion of the frame had to be of a different size since the notch was not going to be there. But I was also wondering if his above mentioned procedure only pertains to cross sections and not the whole complete keel assembly itself. That is a question I will have to ask him. I hope you get what i am saying. i brought this up because I like POF models but they do take a fair bit of your time in building them and this portion being left out would certainly spped things up. I was just curious thats all....

I am sorry if you thought I meant you had to have the notches you don’t. I know POF models take a lot of time but I would rather spend a little more time up front on the build than fight problems later on in the build if you know what I mean. The notches made installing the frames a lot easier for me. Mike

Since retirement my sleeping needs have changed drastically. I find myself working until the wee hours of the morning now. Great work on the Pinta. Very clean and precise. Nice build board by the way. ![]() [ Edited Thu Feb 14 2013, 06:34pm ]
