With the 130pages photo color step by step to build the ship it will be easy. Chuck wife was use for the representation of the figurehead of the ship. The only thing I do not like about that model is the type copper plating supply for the hull Will see about that when we are there Now I almost finish the figurine series that I start (10) I got a 1:35 scale WWII tank to finish (start it 23y ago) my lady what here Greek Bireme and Y have the RL to complete. But when you are ready for the Syren will start it with you it will be fun

The jib sail has come out great with a nice in the wind bow to it. I may have an issue with the stay bail off the mast cap tho. It angles down and just touches against the mast, I might not have brought it out enough when I made it. Will see when I add the split rings and lacing... I've ordered some more 2mm split rings which I will use for the hanks. Switched glue for making the jib sail and the WeldBond dries clear and remains quite flexible. Learning tons as I go, with a big thanks for all the help from you guys. If I knew what I know now when I started this build it would have come together a lot smoother. I suspect that will be the case with every build eh. Few picks so you know I'm not just out enjoying the nice weather lol. First one showing the bolt rope glued around the outer edge of the sail. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Take a 2 mm. diameter drill, clamp it in the vise, then wrap a length of brass wire around the shank of the drill. The number of wraps should equal the number of rings you require plus a few extra. Remove the wire and using a pair of snips, start cutting axially, one ring at a time. The joints can be soldered later if you wish but I have found the wire is sufficiently rigid to do without. There is very little stress on them once installed. Before you know it you will be a scratch builder >:D< Keith. [ Edited Mon Jun 10 2019, 05:35am ]

Duh why didn't i try it because now that I have the wire is fine. Worked great and was so easy to do!!! In 5 min I have enough split rings to do a whole build. Geez what a newbie. Thanks again for the help. You guys are determined to see me on the dark side I know ![]()

You guys are determined to see me on the dark side I know ![]() Glad it worked for you Robin, but I think we all have tried both methods of build, kit or scratch. It's whatever you are comfortable with. Regarding tips for methods of work, I have used many jigs and advice in the past from Harold Underhill's two books, "Plank on Frame Ship Models--Vol. 1 & 2". They are both structured on building the Norwegian brigantine Leon of 1880. First volume is for the hull. The second volume is for Masting, rigging and sails. They are pricey books from Ferguson & sons Glasgow,Scotland but can sometimes be picked up used. I often look at mine --great reference booksl. BTW. some brass is what is called cartridge brass. Some is softer. The stuff from jewelers' supply may be the best bet. Keith.

I cut a small piece of really soft sponge which I shove in under the rail to hold the line in around the underside of the belaying pin. Then I can tie in the line around the pin on the top side of the rail without it jumping out >:D< Pop the sponge out after and your done. Few pics to follow. I hope I got the reef points correctly done. I have them both sides of the fore sail. ![]() This ones for Charles a new drink to help me concentrate ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers ~

To make a line off to a belaying pin, run the line down past the front of the pin rail and then thread it up through the appropriate hole. Now put a pin in the hole. (You might need to increase the hole diameter slightly to accommodate the line and the pin.) Tension in the line pulls the pin into the hole so everything will stay secure. At any time, you can temporarily lift the pin to adjust the tension. To finally make off the line, you can wind it in a figure 8 around the pin and then either make a coil with the remainder or fix it with glue and make a separate coil later.
