I am quite excited about this one, as it will be larger ship than the gunboat and it will have gun ports for cannons! All my other boats before where too small for that. It's like my boats are growing up ![]() I have done a little research and started to build my 3D model. As usual I then make a rendering over which I scribble my design sketch. This step helps me visualize in an easy way where all the "painted" details will go. This ship will be about 12" long and 4" wide. Chris ![]()

So one option of my PDF print files is a layer with a 1" grid to assist that. Keith, I didn't know, but I studied a lot of blueprints and this ratio seemed looking close to the real thing. When I stray too far off the original proportions the boats start to look weird. When I design my boats I often use an option in 3D modelling software where I put a background image in to help with finding my geometry. I think I am a little wider (mostly just to squeeze in a full grid inch) than the blueprints but not much. Honestly, I am happy with whoever watches and esp gives feedback. Even one good feedback saves the day for me! In your community I wouldn't be surprised if I would be looked at as the crazy kid with strange new design ideas ![]() Chris

It has a great number of line drawings starting from primitive man's dugout log to ancient oared vessels and finishes with how they were built in the Mediterranean, Europe, the Baltic and North America. https://www.amazon.ca/Evolution-Wooden-Ship-Basil-Greenhill/dp/1932846190?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duc12-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=1932846190 Basil Greenhill was at one time the curator of the National Maritime Museum UK. so he no doubt had a lot of research material at his fingertips. And it is interesting to see another way of doing thing a new form of modelling. So let us enjoying your work. I know a modeller that is building the Titanic boiler room in styrene all scratch. I am an ordinary wood chipping modeller so I have fun to follow you ![]()

It's a half size build where I scribble the details on to get a good look at building process, part fittings and visual appeal. I found the stern section a little too short and will extrude it a bit to make it look more like my research pics. After that I will have to do a test build at full size (model full size that is!) to see if my cannons will work with the height of the gun ports. Chris ![]()
