As the online order of the wood will cost me 25€ for 2€ of wood (minimum 19€ of order + shipping), I would like to take the opportunity to replace the default stand for the model. I see a lot of ships with brass supports on a wooden stand, do you have any idea how to attach the brass supports to the keel ? Is it easy ? Yes it can be done---BUT it is best to think about it when you first start the ship! I drill two holes vertically into the keel for stainless steel threaded rod. Epoxy them in if you can, or figure some way of anchoring them inside the hull. Of course the two brass pedestals must be turned on a small lathe and drilled AND slotted to receive the rods AND keel. One more thought: to give more stability when your ship is in its display case, I add two slender pedestals, one each side of the ship. Keith. [ Edited Tue Jun 02 2020, 05:17pm ]

It might look better if you painted the underwater part white. From what I have read on the real ship this was some kind of white stuff mixed with tallow ![]() Keith. You're right, in fact it was not intended to be left unpainted. In fact it took me some weeks to start the painting, because I was not sure to be able to paint it correctly (to draw the line I just use a pen and a stand made from lego - and the tape was so hard to put !). When I finished it, I put so much energy that I abandonned the ship during almost 1 year ! so painting the rudder was so easy that I left it for later ![]() (sorry for the english mistakes)

Sounds quite complex ![]() I profit from your answer to ask something : i use sometimes Epoxy A/B but I'm not satisfied by the result. The mix is rubbery even after some hours. Do you have any tips to mix A et B correctly ? or this is normal and it hardens later ?

The stuff we have here in Maple Ridge (Canada) is what they call "3M five minute epoxy" and it dries hard as a rock in five minutes. I use it mostly for steel or brass parts to wood. If yours is not drying hard after a few hours it could be because it is old or you have added too much of part A to B or vice versa. It certainly does work, in fact it seems to be perfect, but cleaning up any mess is terrible and there is no adjusting the parts once they are in position and dried. Your English is fine. Perfectly understandable. Do you mind if I ask you some questions (nothing to do with ships) either using PM or your e mail. I prefer e mail. Keith.

I was missing some 2mm blocks, unfortunately it is very difficult to find easily parts (amati, artesiana, etc.) in Paris ! All my job may be masked by the deck removable footbridges. I think I will not glue them. ![]() ![]() - I won't touch the hull for many weeks now, as I'm doing the rigging, which is a nightmare. Particularly the deadeye and shrouds rigging, which afraids me because it seems so difficult to have the same spacing for the 3 masts ! So for the moment I started with easier parts, bowsprit, blocks and pulleys... ![]() ![]() ![]() Unfortunatly my beautiful mat black paint of masts is now covered with traces of cyano which I will have to clean...

When the cannon was fired it recoiled and sprang back closer to the centre of the ship. Try to do the rigging in the order in which it was done on the real ship. I.E. standing rigging, running rigging, lower masts, up to topmasts. It's easier on your sanity ![]() Received your e mail and thanks. Will reply later. Keith. I didn't start again because I am short in thread. I'll check what I can do, the problem is that I fear to destroy the attach of it and it was very difficult to do. Regarding the blocks, I tried with this method, and the result is bad : I succeed in making the hole, the groove, but the block is very fragile and when I put the wire it splits in 2 parts. I'll order some in two weeks... [ Edited Tue Jul 28 2020, 01:42pm ]

This is the problem when you have a ship at that scale (1:64 I believe) It is not much better at the classic scale of 1:48 but can be done if you have your blocks made of boxwood. (buxus sempervirens). Yes, I know you are having trouble with material purchase in Paris and the stuff kit makers supply is worthless. Same goes for rigging rope. They do not supply stuff which is to scale. That is why modelers turn to scratch building. Have you considered making a basic rope walk and buying some DMC crochet thread to spin your own rigging?
