I may have some questions for you : - what do you think about painting the rail in black ? as for this one ? ![]() I'll paint the hull in white. I've found this one, with a pattern where the rudder is not painted. What do you think of that ? is it realistic ? ![]() [ Edited Tue Feb 19 2019, 09:41am ]

It is a personal choice no true answer But (every time you have a but) and again my opinion if the wood is not nice damage or with defect painting might be a solution to have those imperfection / damage camouflaged. One way or another it is a personal decision of what you want your model to look Me I use paint only to hide defect or are in the case of the Santisima or the Royal Louis to be as close of the original at a certain time as possible.

You will have to slice a bit of the top rail off to make a good joint. You ask about painting the rail at the forecastle. Is it to hide the end grain of the stanchions? I think even paint does not hide the way it was constructed. My eye would always go to it ![]() Are you going to drill some holes for belaying pins in that top rail? You know the ones Mamoli show in their "box art"? Keith.

Regarding the stanchions I don’t know how I could cover it and to be honest I like the look. Yes I'll have to drill through the rail. Why do you ask ? [ Edited Tue Feb 19 2019, 09:56am ]

I hope you and your family are well, in particular Keith, Charles, Tim, who have been active on this thread. I finished to glue some cleats, rings, wooden pieces, chimney, stairs, etc. ![]() The captain cabin is installed, the lateral windows as well. It's not perfect because it was totally impossible to bend the metal, and making the hull flat just behind the windows was a nightmare, so I prefer to keep half a mm rather than destroy the hull. ![]() ![]() ![]() I had a good fight trying to find the right place for the metal pieces next to the forepeak. I glued everything before to notice that they forget to say that there should be a hole for the rope which is between the bowsprit and the forepeak ![]()

For the moment, I did the 3 main masts, plus some other, and I'm pretty surprised to have such a good result without any electric equipment. But I did not optimize the rods, and one is missing ![]() As there is no more wood available in Paris (!! the last shop where I went closed last october), I took a chinese stick, but it's bamboo so I imagine we will see the difference of grain (it should be painted black, so no problem of color) Everything is cut, and I need to buy one 5mm rod and also a 3mm one. ![]() As the online order of the wood will cost me 25€ for 2€ of wood (minimum 19€ of order + shipping), I would like to take the opportunity to replace the default stand for the model. I see a lot of ships with brass supports on a wooden stand, do you have any idea how to attach the brass supports to the keel ? Is it easy ?

From what I have read on the real ship this was some kind of white stuff mixed with tallow ![]() Keith.
