I am about nine months into this particular project. I have been enjoying it immensely. This particular kit dates back to 1991. It is first generation laser-cut. This means that all of the laser-cut parts have required a significant amount of trimming to get them to fit properly. I have encountered a few problems because of the age of the wood. I had a few minor problems with breakage, during planking, even after soaking and applying heat, nothing that a little putty and sanding didn't fix. I decided that I am going to build the Victory as she would have appeared at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. I am implementing the full Nelson Checkerboard paint scheme.

I used a charcoal pencil to make the caulking. I painted the ribs, on the upper gun-deck, white ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Since it would be covered, I didn't worry too much about it. I just patched it and kept going.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It took care of the problem, quite handily. I moved on to the outer layer of planking. I cut these to 2.5" lengths to simulate actual planks.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I made a mess of the first few gunports that I tried to cut out. I learned that if you press lightly with your pinvise, using a 1/16" bit, and essentially perforate the side of the gunport, that you can use an X-Acto knife to clean it out. This worked very well and enabled me to relatively quickly cut my 104 gunports.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bought three rolls of 3/16" copper tape to copper the Victory's hull. I am waiting on my pounce wheel so I can make the nail indents in my copper plating. Now that we're all caught up, I'll keep everyone posted on progress. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
