They are just placed unglued on the keel with a couple of loose wood strips on each side of the keel to keep them balanced. I saw from the photo that some are placed backwards. There are still some small adjustments I want to make to the frames before permanently installing them. All in all it seems to be going ok. I am enjoying that the modeling work does not create a lot of sawdust and waste like my normal woodworking does plus it is a lot easier to keep my shop clean and neat. AEW I intended to measure the length to let you know, but I forgot. It is around 20". I will get a more accurate measurement for you tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() [ Edited Mon Nov 07 2016, 06:13pm ]

I was the victim of Murphy's law yesterday. I had glued up fore and Aft frames from which I was removing the pins after gluing and I pulled one futtock loose at the glue joint. I tried to re-glue it with ca glue, but it didn't hold. Then I decided it must be a bad joint, so I decided to sand the floor and futtock ends, one end to get the ca glue off and the other to square up the joint. I did this and it worked, except of course this shortened the floor and the futtock creating a gap in the joint. I filled the gap with a little sawdust and glue, a fix that I don't much like. Next I glued the aft and fore frames together and for some unknown reason I decided to clamp them together instead of pinning them down. While clamping I dropped the frame and broke the other futtock off. needless to say, I will be making a replacement . This is my first modeling disaster and I actually found it pretty humorous considering all the stupidity involved. There are probably many more disasters yet to come.

I remade several on my Washington. Instead of using pins in the sister frames you could use 20 or 22 gauge brass wire and leave it in place after the glue dries. After sanding them flush with the frame they look good. I like to glue the frames together before I add the bolts or treenails. You will find the small detail work a lot more interesting after the framing is finished. Mike
