BUT in amongSt the fittings which are in various compartments of 2 styrene pieces there are some machined walnut pieces... that just happen to match the plan patern for the external keel....they were scattered around 2 different pots and one piece in amongst the planking timber etc...... so the kit can come now into a build.... or rather it has... as I have already sanded the false keel to take the first section which is directly under the bowsprit on the curved section of bow... just waiting for glue to dry....😊 A quick question..... I read the instructions as the frames are fitted with the tops level with the top of false keel....this seems logic let but with no visual conformation on the plan just wondering....... If you simply run the planks on to the stern post, you'll end up with 6 mm of keel, probably 2 x 1.5 mm first planking and 2 x 1 or 1.5 mm second planking. That's a total thickness of 11 or 12 mm. You really want to end up at the same thickness as the rudder (or the thickness of the stern post if it's a hardwood piece separate from the keel). If it's double planked, rebate the first planking into the keel some way short of the stern post and then taper the keel from that point back to get to the thickness you want.

Probably just a sticking point with the cheaper kits..... planking is supplied for double layer or I could get some a little heavier and single plank it...ummm... 😞☺

You might want to download the Schooner Bluenose Practicum by Gene Bodnar. It is under the Projects section of this site I think you will find it helpful. Good luck with the build. Mike
