As the story goes, my employer (and good friend) and I were talking about models a few months back and he had asked me if I would build one for him. After explaining the delimia I have with regards to the workshop at home, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. We recently purchased a new building and have tons of extra room so he has allowed me to set up shop there! It gets better. He wants me to work on it when we have slow times at work, which, for me is about three days out of the week.
This project was orginally headed up by Gene Bodnar at my other site Navy Board Models.
This build is of the US Brig Eagle and in 1:24 scale (1/2"=1').
Unfortunately I didn't have a camera handy when I started building so the pictures you see from here on in will be from my progress to date on.
All drawings were generated in AutoCAD. Here's Frame D.
And of course here are the blanks being test fitted together before glueing together. I'm posting this while I'm waiting for the glue to dry on this frame so I'll print more pictures of the process as I go.
That's it for now.

It would be nice if we could cross-deck all the Eagle data and projects to this site. Now I have something else to watch while Gen Hunter is on hold. Rich

I'm currently trying to reassemble things on this end so I can post Gene's project in PDF format here at the site. I seem to have most of the pictures (if not all) I just need to locate the write-ups.

Here's a weekly update on the progress. Slow going due to work interruptions but then I guess I can't complain.

Its one of the few woods suitable for modeling that I can get locally and mill myself. Otherwise it would cost a fortune to have to bring something special in. The clamps I purchased at Lee Valley Tools. They are awesome and I'll be adding more of them to my collection over time. Micro-Mark also has them but they are a little more pricey there.

This weeks progress was a little slow. Had a few minor issues drawing up the frame plans due to the hull line, however, once I figured out what was happening I was quickly able to resolve the issues. Another couple of frames to install at the bow section and then its on to the cant frames.
To give you a quick idea of the size of the model, as it sits right now, from the bow to the sternpost the model is about 60". Lets just say, this one won't be sitting in anyones living room when she's done!!!
In fact, right now we're debating on whether to add the masting. We have a display case at work that would be perfect for her if we leave them off. Thus she will probably be more of a traditional Navy Board Hull model. However the verdict is still out.
