This acts as a rudder by angling the pole to either side.
If you push the pole backwards, this is what happens:
I'm sure you can make it more streamlined and come up with better limit stops than a length of thread but it does actually work! The brief test showed that the blades should be short and deep rather thann long and thin. (portrait not landscape!) The only problem I see is that it doesn't do reverse. But then again, neither did Charon!
Simply pivoting his arm at the shoulder looks like it would be a good start:

Your idea to use the Ardiuno board I thought would be the way to go. I would use a small servo built into the pole to pivot the pole paddle that way I could program the angle I want of the paddle and give it the ability to reverse. By my calculations I will need five servos, three for the pole movement and two for his head movement. I'm going to have to root around in my stashed RC bits and see if I have enough servos. This is the part of these builds I like the best.

For his look I'm torn between a skull or just a shaded look for his face under the hood. I plan on having him hunched over and have the appearance of ribs and backbone under his cape and the arms look like bones too, this is going to be tricky. I pretty much have to have the Ferryman built first before I build the boat due to the boat needs to fit him as opposed to him fitting the boat. Pretty much everything I build is remote control so hopefully the building purists won't be offended by my type of building that incorporates my other hobby work too. I was thinking there should be an RC section on the website but because I seem to be the main one into it, but on second thought I really don't know if that would be a good thing. As far as purists are concerned, I believe that a modeler should pursue the kind of modeling he enjoys. If that breaks the rules in the eyes of the purists, then that's too bad for them, for they have missed the whole point of modeling -- to enjoy the build. To me, your ideas are fascinating and I look forward to seeing them develop. Gene

I must admit I do think outside of the box, but not too far outside the box. I was raised around machinery and make my living repairing the same so I believe that plays a big part in why I want my creations to function.

Arthur came to my rescue and helped guide me through the toughest parts of learning this thing. Thank you Arthur for having the patience to deal with my fits and tantrums you have the tolerance of a stone. The next posting will be of Charons head because now the camera will dictate the size of the build. I plan on having a camera in his head that I can view through my Fat Shark goggles so that I can cruise around a pond without being able to see my boat from where I sit. I'll post pictures of all that stuff next time I'm on.

Now the start of Charon, reason I'm starting here with his head is I have to fit a camera in his head then reduce it's size to just fit the camera because the size of his head will dictate the size of the boat. Here is the start of my build.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
