![]() Registered Member #105 Joined: Wed Jul 15 2009, 12:01pmPosts: 3560 | so lets build a model The last 2 summers before the Alvin Clark went to pieces I would make a "vacation" trip to record measurements and take pictures. As a result of the trips, I drew up a set of modeling plans. The biggest problem was creating a set of hull lines. At this point the hull was quite distorted but as luck would have it the use of CAD and "drawing by the numbers" or in actual ship building off a table of offsets I was able to recreate the hull shape. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [ Edited Tue Dec 02 2014, 05:49pm ] | ||

![]() Registered Member #105 Joined: Wed Jul 15 2009, 12:01pmPosts: 3560 | Arriving the first summer this is what I saw. the hull was starting to come apart but still holding together![]() by the second summer the hull began to cave in on itself and you can see the distortion making it kind of difficult to reconstruct the original shape. ![]() the planking was pulling away from the frames and the stern falling backwards ![]() I actually explored the entire structure and looking back I realize the "luck" that it did not cave in on top of me, everything was just falling apart and the entire hull was rotting away. ![]() | ||

Will you be offering this as a kit down the road? actually there is a laser cut kit but it was never offered because the kit was designed without the use of a jig and even I ran into building problems that I will cover in this log. I did build the model but I thought hum this is an advanced build here is the Alvin Clark model and the Caustic model to show the difference in size the A.C. is 29 inches long and my problem was keeping the hull from distorting while I built it ![]() | ||
