Since I am currently working on the USF Essex, I thought I needed a little break from working on the frame blanks and decided to work on the Mediator. Now both Gene and Jeff have already constructed their sloops beautifully at 1:48 scale. Now it is recommended to get the plans printed on I believe 22x32 inch paper in order to construct the sloop at 1:48. While I was at work today, I printed the plans on regular ream paper and thought it would be nice to tackle the sloop at that size. Now if my math is correct, and using Gene's dimension of the actual sloop, then the scale that I will construct my sloop will be 1:147. Now most of you are thinking, "My God man, why?". Well what can I say, I'm a glutten for punishment. The following photos will show you what I have so far. Oh, and Jeff, I'm sorry if I have offended you with going at this marvelous little guy at this scale. You are the man. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [ Edited Fri Dec 05 2014, 05:11am ]

One challenge I am sure you have started working on is what level of detail you will include in the small scale. Having seen the great work you have done on your other projects, this is going to be a very interesting build to watch.

I will try to incorporate everything that Gene and Jeff have already added in theirs, albeit at a much smaller scale. Wish me luck Buddy. [ Edited Tue Dec 02 2014, 04:10am ]

You probably will have to simplify the deck items a lot. How in the world are you going to make things like the wheel? ![]() Jeff

You all bring bring great questions and/or comments to the table and I'll try to answer them the best way I can. Gene, I have thought of ships-in-bottles and thought the only way to get started on that is to at least place my toe in the water to see if I like it. So far, so good. Arthur, your, "And just where do you think you're going to put that?" question, maybe a huge jar. LOL Winston, I'll look at that issue. Jeff, I'm glad you took no offense at the "micro" version of your great drawings, which by-the-way, inspired me to work on her. I've thought about the simplification of deck details and in regards to the ships wheel, let's just say I'll cross that bridge once I get there.
