From the plans it looks to be a slanted dado cut from bearding line to rabbet line but the plans don't give precise measures (though they do warn the modeler not to cut too deeply as the keel is only 3/16" thick! Duh...) Should I just cut down at the rabbet and then sand out wood from the rabbet (deepest portion of dado) to the bearding line? Also is this the right forum for this question? I definitely don'want to wear out you patience... I hear the suggestion of a building log but that seems so intimidating.

It shows how do what you ask plus a whole bunch more about planking. Follow the explanations and you will do a great job. Tom ![]()

And Peter, please send me a link to your log? WhenI get my ____together'll try to post a log if only to show other newcomers what not to do...

As it happens the false keel shown in Fig 2 is 3/16th thick plywood. so at the base of the keel it is one thickness of the ply. Hope that clarifies. Tom

The relationship of the bearding and rabbet lines is a little confusing, though (in figure 2 they almost look to be the same?) but now I see that the bearding line is just marking the beginning point for a taper; I'll check my Bluenose plans a little more carefully. I don't want to rush this!
