After looking on line for junk plans I came across a set of plans that looked easy to do and grabbed my attention from the onset. It came with different views with a lot of details that left little room to the imagination. I noticed that the language on one set of plans was different from another set. So, bottom line up front, The original drawings were done in Polish, the next set was in Spanish, and what I originally thought was a Chinese Junk is actually a Vietnamese Junk and all the information you have read has been written in English (I apologize for that, I was on a roll with different languages and five seemed a little better than four). Now that I got that out of the way, attached you will find photos showing you what I have just described with the exception of the last photo which I've added because I believe it will help me with the details for the anchor and rudder winches. I've also carved out the rabbet to accomadate my planks. I am also looking at that cross piece and am not happy with the way it looks for now. I believe that I must remake it a little larger than the plan calls for. insert it onto the stem, and using a square make the line coming straight down from the corners in order to ensure it mirrors my plans. Any suggestions? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I was able to fix the cross piece on the stem that was bothering me a bit and also added the decorative piece in front of the stem that I assume is the Junk's knife edge. Sadly, the plans I got from the internet were not complete and there were 6 frames missing from the overall plans. While I was contemplating over the missing frames I busied myself with making the jig to hold my frames when I had a lightbulb in my head come on. Since these plans do nor have buttock lines nor do they have water lines, I was not able to draft the missing frames and I was forced to result to making copies of the frames I had and super-impose one cutout frame above another and divide the difference between the two in order to get a rough drawing of the missing frames. Under the circumstances, I believe they came out rather well. Below you will be able to see how my progress is going. Raymond ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had removed the Junk from its jig and as I was admiring it, I decided to dry fit a plank in order to see how the rabbet would accommodate it when what do you think happened? YES… I dropped it and a few frames flew off the keel in different directions. I kept a cool head and recalled how Gary filled in the space between bulkheads on his Rattler, I thought that I could do the same. Since I did not have any balsa blocks on hand I decided to use the 1” insulation board I had left over from a different project. Its light weight, easy to cut, and easy to shape. I fitted the insulation board in between my frames and while I was waiting for the glue to dry, I decided to work on the forward winches on frame 10 and started on my rudder. On frame 9 I am supposed to make a mast support which is what I will do after I am done posting this update. My plans calls for a centerboard on frame 10 but instead I will delete the centerboard from this build seeing how the winches, mast support and centerboard are all on frames 10 and 9 which makes everything look too busy in that area. What I plan to do is instead of the centerboard I will place leeboards off the port and starboard midship area. I guess one of the benefits from scratch building is that you can alter anything on the plans instead of following it like a lemming. Photos below will show you what I have so far. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [ Edited Tue Jan 21 2014, 01:18am ]
