All partitions are light-weight and easily collapsible, and can be folded up and stored away in a few minutes in case of threat of a battle. However, I did make my partitions permanent. Gene

This particular group represents six of the crew members performing various tasks on the lower deck. Later, in between modeling the ship, I will carve the remaining people, which includes another 24 crew members and officers; 42 men from 3 different regiments being transported; 4 wives and 5 children of the regimental men; 1 ranger; 1 passenger; and 4 Mohawk Indians. I did not display the crewmen barefooted or in dress uniforms. I am portraying the ship as of the morning on the day she sank – October 31, 1780. That morning, it was probably a very cold day, with very strong winds created as a result of a hurricane that developed in the Caribbean a few days earlier. Little did the crew realize that the ship would be caught in one of the severest storms every reported on Lake Ontario. Later that afternoon she would sink, with no survivors. ![]() ![]()

What I didn't understand about those partitions was that they only seemed to create a room containing a gun and could only be erected with the gun run out.

Arthur, I'm not sure I follow you. The guns in the partitioned rooms are run out. Are you speaking of the coils of gun tackle? I chose not to include the train tackle. Gene

The partitions would presumably only be erected when the ship was not in action, or expecting action, so the guns wouldn't be run out at that time. As far as your POWs are concerned, lock them up out of sight below deck! ![]()

Perhaps the guns weren't actually in those rooms when the bulkheads were in position? Anyway, I can see the case for you showing the arrangement as per the plans.

There was no American naval presence on Lake Ontario at the time other than small rowboats. So while the ship was designed to carry that many guns, it is possible it did not carry it's full compliment. Larry Davis

I spent the last week in a hospital for congestive heart failure -- what a kick in the teeth! The prognosis for a full recovery is good as long as I stick to a strict low-salt and low-sugar diet and continue to take more medication for the duration. As a result of this event, I have decided to make a few changes in my goals for the HMS Ontario. I will not be modeling all 88 figures, as I originally intended. Life is too short. However, I will still model about 30 of the crew members involved in various activities throughout the ship. And I still expect to fully rig the model with mostly furled sails. Today will be the first day of my return to modeling, and I am definitely looking forward to it. Gene
